Which Garage Door Types Are Compatible?

Decor Your Door covers work with sectional-panel garage doors and can also be used with a one-piece canopy garage door.

They are not designed for roll-up garage doors that roll around a barrel like a roll of paper. A roll-up door does not provide the same panel structure or attachment layout used by the Decor Your Door system.

Exterior Covers and Standard Metal Hinges

For an exterior garage door cover, standard metal garage door hinges provide a location for the elastic cord hanger heads to hook onto the door.

Wayne Dalton doors that use small black plastic hinges create an exterior-installation limitation. The top Velcro sections can still attach, but the black plastic hinge does not provide a suitable place to hook the elastic cord hanger head.

This Wayne Dalton black-plastic-hinge issue applies specifically to the exterior attachment method.

Can the Garage Door Open and Close with the Cover Installed?

Yes. Decor Your Door exterior and interior garage door covers are designed to allow the garage door to open and close normally while the cover is installed.

The attachment system is built into the cover so the material can move with the garage door during normal operation.

The exterior version includes:

• Six stitched-in Velcro sections along the top of the cover
• Three stitched-in elastic cords along the bottom
• A complete attachment system already incorporated into the product

The top Velcro sections secure the upper edge of the cover, while the bottom elastic cords connect to suitable metal hinge locations on the garage door.

Interior Garage Door Covers

Decor Your Door introduced its interior garage door cover version near the end of 2025. It installs on the inside-facing surface of the garage door and still allows full door operation.

The interior version includes:

• Velcro along the top
• Elastic cords positioned along the sides of the cover
• A layout designed for viewing the decorated garage door from inside the garage

Interior covers are suitable for garage gyms, studios, workshops, game rooms, showrooms and other transformed garage spaces.

How to Measure a Garage Door Cover

Measure the garage door from inside the garage. Measure the visible door surface from side to side and from bottom to top.

The two required measurements are:

1. Width: Measure horizontally from one side of the garage door to the other.
2. Height: Measure vertically from the bottom of the garage door to the top.

Use the actual measurements of your door rather than relying only on labels such as single-car or double-car garage. This gives you the information needed to select the closest available size or request a custom size.

Why Decor Your Door Uses Polyester

Decor Your Door garage door covers are made from polyester.

Polyester is preferred because it is lighter, easier to handle, foldable and suitable for repeated seasonal storage. When cleaning is needed, the polyester cover can be machine washed in cold water.

Why Vinyl Is Not Recommended

Vinyl covers are usually stored on a roll. Decor Your Door does not recommend vinyl for this application because it is heavier, bulkier and less convenient to handle and store.

A polyester garage door cover is easier to install, remove, fold and reuse from year to year.

What Comes with the Cover?

The attachment elements are stitched into the Decor Your Door garage door cover.

For exterior covers, the stitched system includes six top Velcro sections and three bottom elastic cords. For interior covers, it includes top Velcro and elastic cords along the sides.

Are Tools Required for Installation?

No tools are required for a standard installation. One person can install the cover using two hands.

Installation generally takes approximately two to five minutes after the attachment points are prepared.

Installing Velcro in Cold Weather

In cold or frozen conditions, warm the upper area of the garage door where the Velcro will be attached.

1. Use a blow dryer or heat gun to apply warm air to the attachment area.
2. Make sure any ice is defrosted.
3. Warm the surface before applying the Velcro.
4. Press the Velcro firmly against the prepared area so it attaches properly.

Use heat carefully and keep the heat source moving rather than holding it in one place.

Can the Cover Be Used in Rain, Snow, Frost and Sun?

Yes. Decor Your Door polyester garage door covers can be used in rain, snow, frost and sunlight. The material is sun resistant and designed for exterior display.

In cold climates, the most important preparation step is warming and drying the Velcro attachment area before applying the adhesive strips.

Can the Cover Be Used with a Center Handle?

Yes. A garage door with a center handle can still use a Decor Your Door cover. The presence of the middle handle is not an issue for the cover.

Can a Garage Door Cover Be Reused?

Yes. The cover can be reused year after year.

How to Clean a Polyester Garage Door Cover

When cleaning is needed, the polyester cover can be washed in a washing machine using cold water.

Do not use hot water. Follow the care information provided with the order and make sure the cover is fully dry before storing it.

How to Store the Cover

After use, make sure the polyester cover is clean and completely dry. Fold it carefully and store it in a dry location until it is needed again.

This compact storage method makes polyester more convenient than a bulky vinyl cover that normally needs to remain rolled.

Custom uploads are printed from the files and information submitted by the customer. Before placing the order, review the artwork carefully and confirm that it is readable, complete, correctly spelled, properly positioned, high enough in quality for the selected size and authorized for reproduction.

Additional design work such as text removal, text replacement, background removal, layout changes, restoration or redesign is not included with a standard custom-product purchase. These services require Decor Your Door's separate customization service.

Orders are processed and sent to production within one to three business days after payment is confirmed. Orders placed after 12:00 PM local time are processed on the following business day.

Once an order has entered processing or production, it cannot be canceled or changed.

Return Policy Overview

A return request must be submitted within seven days beginning on the date the order is delivered.

Because Decor Your Door products are custom and made to order, returns are accepted only when:

• The item is defective
• The item is damaged upon arrival
• The customer received the wrong item

An eligible item must be unused, not installed, in its original packaging and in the same condition in which it was received.

Incorrect measurements submitted by the customer do not qualify for a return or refund. Personalized, customized, made-to-size and customer-artwork products are final sale except when they arrive damaged, defective or materially different from the confirmed order.

Customers are responsible for return shipping costs. Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method after the returned item is received and inspected.

1. Confirm the garage door type. Verify that the door is a sectional-panel door or a compatible one-piece canopy door. Do not order the standard system for a roll-up door. For an exterior cover, inspect whether the door uses standard metal hinges or Wayne Dalton small black plastic hinges.
2. Measure from inside the garage. Measure the visible garage door from side to side and from bottom to top. Use the actual measurements when selecting a standard size or requesting a custom size.
3. Choose the correct cover version. Select an exterior cover for the outside-facing surface or an interior cover for the inside-facing surface of the garage door. Review the installation video for the selected version before installation.
